Bruce Sanguin had an awakening experience on the shore of Narragansett, Rhode Island. He realized that he was the presence of the universe, in human form, evolving. He underwent an irreversible transformation of consciousness that involved his realization of unity with All That Is. Following this experience, his theological and spiritual orientation began to shift. In this webinar he will share the story of his spiritual and theological transformation.
Is evolution the godless, directionless, and purposeless process that the New Atheists make it out to be? Or can it be imagined as a divine strategy for bringing forth a world? What does it mean to be Christian when we know that the the evolutionary process itself has gained the capacity for conscious awareness, in, through, and as us? Exploring Open Source (United Church of Canada)
The concept of “open source” – free and open sharing of technology, design and knowledge is quickly becoming a disruptive element in fields of software (where it started) and hardware development, and education, to name but a few. This is in part a result of expectations around mass collaboration, crowdsourcing and shared wisdom that is a ‘given’ for digital natives.
This has interesting and perhaps startling ramifications for the church community. For example, consider the large part technology is playing in your world these days. What role does the community of developers (apps, gadgets, and software) play in areas of faith and spirituality? What is the source of any talent and ability that we have? What happens when ideas are shared instead of being licensed for financial gain? These are all questions that guided Peter Chynoweth during a four month sabbatical in 2012. Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) is mentioned several times in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. What does it mean? How is it applied in Canada in relationship to resource development and First Nations, Metis, and Inuit? How does it relate to the Duty to Consult? Is it only ‘aspirational’? What are the issues that are arising? How can ‘settler peoples” stand in solidarity (e.g. responsible investment) with First Peoples in upholding FPIC?

We Are All Treaty People (United Church of Canada)
Two or more nations engage in treaty–making. The presenters will explore what it means to exercise the rights and responsibilities of being treaty people today.
The Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (1996) said “by reconciliation we mean more than just giving effect to a treaty hunting right or securing the restoration of reserve land taken unfairly or illegally in the past. It means embracing the spirit and intent of the treaty relationship itself, a relationship of mutual trust and loyalty, as the framework for a vibrant and respectful new relationship between peoples.”
The Truth and Reconciliation Findings refer to Treaties in Calls to Action 10, 14, 18, 24, 27, 42, 45, 46iv, 57, 86, 92. Embracing treaties is a basic tenet of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), which the TRC has recommended as a framework for reconciliation.
The presenters will help to consider some next steps for the church as people more fully embrace the spirit and intent of treaty relationship, and journey towards reconciliation.
