Creating a Social Media Policy: An Important Safety Tool for Your Congregation (Faith Trust Institute)


Too often, we haven’t defined how to use technology thoughtfully, ensuring safety. Lydia Mulkey is the Youth Ministry Director for the Community Church of Sebastopol, UCC and will complete her Master of Divinity at Pacific School of Religion in May of 2015. She has served in children and youth ministry at churches in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and in Tennessee.   • Rev. Dr. Marie Fortune is the Founder and Senior Analyst at FaithTrust Institute. A graduate of Yale Divinity School, she is a pastor, educator, and author as well as a practicing ethicist and theologian. Her books include Keeping the Faith: Guidance for Christian Women Facing Abuse and Sexual Violence: The Sin Revisited.
  • Mary E. Hunt is the co-founder and co-director of the Women’s Alliance for Theology, Ethics and Ritual (WATER). She has lectured and taught on theology and ethics at numerous institutions, including Georgetown University and Pacific School of Religion. She has written and edited extensively, including New Feminist Christianity: Many Voices, Many Views.
  • Rabbi Lisa Gelber is the Associate Dean of the Rabbinical School at the Jewish Theological Seminary where she directs a project combining mindfulness practice and character development. She served as rabbi of a congregation in Mercer Island, WA. She is co-editor of A Journey Towards Freedom: A Haggadah for Victims of Domestic Violence.
  • Elizabeth J. A. Siwo-Okundi is from Kenya. Her commitment to social justice is deeply influenced by the faithful and informed activism of her family. She is a preacher who is a passionate advocate for the “small voice”. She has preached in numerous settings, served as a pastor, and is a PhD candidate in Practical Theology and Homiletics.

Her dissertation and published articles focus on the healing needs of survivors of abuse. She has worked with her own and other judicatories to develop policies, procedures, prevention training, healing protocols, and pastoral response teams to address misconduct in the church.
