This on-demand webinar discusses current research into musical engagement in individuals with developmental disabilities, with an emphasis on behavioral and brain correlates of music perception and production in individuals with specific language impairment, autism spectrum disorder, and Williams syndrome. The study of musical engagement can clarify phenotypic characteristics, provide opportunities for community involvement, and elucidate the active ingredients of music-based interventions in these populations. Future directions for this research, including current music-based intervention programs at the Program for Music, Mind, and Society for Vanderbilt, were discussed.
